I know people in this day and age do not like talking to people. But coming from someone who has worked in retail and is currently working in retail this action of listening to music or talking on the phone makes our jobs much more difficult. As the customer, we want to ensure that you have the best shopping experience ever. We want to help you shop our products because we know them best.

As a sales associate, I am told to talk to every customer several times while they are in the store. If you have your headphones in or if you are on the phone it is rude of me to interrupt, but I still have to talk to you.

I am sorry that we have to interrupt your phone call, but we have to. I know it is rude but we wouldn't have to interrupt your call or your music time if you just waited to do that when you are done shopping.

Communicating can be scary and I know people try to hide in their world of music, but if you come in to shop all we want to do is our job and help you. If you don't listen or ignore us it just shows us that you are saying we are not worth your time. We have to talk to you either way and multiple people will likely come up to you especially in a smaller store.

The sale's associates and even those working the register could be on their phones but we aren't because you, the customer, are our number one priority. Your time is important to us, all we ask for is a little respect in return.

So remember next time you are out shopping try to keep off of your phone, please as a courtesy to all the workers you will come in contact with.

Sincerely,

A retail worker who wants to help you

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
