Shonda Rhimes, Are You Trying To Break My Heart?

I mean, seriously. You’re a great lady, but stop pulling on my heart strings.

No one has broken my heart more than Shonda Rhimes; the genius behind Grey’s Anatomy. I had known of the show but never watched more than a couple episodes. I was sick one day and began channel surfing when I came across a "Grey’s" marathon on Lifetime. I decided to see what the show was all about. 2 weeks later, I had watched every single season that was on Netflix. If you’re anything like me, you feel like you have been personally victimized by Shonda Rhimes. Let’s take a not so lovely stroll down memory lane of some of the most heartbreaking things to happen on "Grey’s Anatomy."

1. Denny Duequette

The moment Shonda decided this beautiful soul was going to die was the moment I realized I could no longer trust her. This was also the moment I realized whenever "Chasing Cars" begins to play in "Grey's," it's inevitable something bad is about to happen.

2. "Drowning on Dry Land"

The most heartbreaking part of this episode was watching McDreamy think that he was about to lose the love of his life.

3. Burke Leaving Cristina

No one saw this coming. If anything, people thought Cristina would be the one to leave Burke. It looked as though the scene was leading up to Burke checking on Cristina and making sure she was okay, but that thought was quickly shot down when Burke looked at Cristina and said, "I'm sorry."

4. Izzie & Cancer

When Denny said "I'm here for you, Izzie." and you finally understood what he meant, it was definitely a moment when your heart drops to your stomach.

5. Derek Hitting The Ring

If you're just as obsessed with Grey's as me, you feel as though you're a part of Meredith and Derek's relationship too. When Derek hit the engagement ring into the woods right in front of Mer, it's basically like he hit a part of your heart along with the ring. But, a couple episodes later, Derek proposed in a very McDreamy way so I'll let this one slide.

6. John Doe is 007

Personally, George was a favorite character of mine. The second Meredith realized George was John Doe, I started crying Justin Timberlake a river. The elevator scene with George and Izzie had me screaming at the TV. In conclusion, season 5 made me an emotional wreck.

7. The Plane Crash And Its Aftermath

This episode had everyone on edge. Lexie and Mark were easily one of the favorite couples on the show. It was crossing the line to kill off Lexie, but then Mark too?

8. Baby Bailey

Seeing Cristina and Derek run down the hallway to Meredith really made me appreciate their friendship even more than I did.

9. Jackson and April's Baby

When Jackson and April's baby was diagnosed with type two osteogenesis imperfecta, it meant the baby would only survive for a couple hours, if at all. Seeing them hurt how they did, really made you feel like they were your friends going through it.

10. McDreamy

Words can't begin to describe how much this absolutely killed Grey's Fans. Why couldn't he just have been sent off? He could've gone to be Cristina's partner in crime, or literally anything would've been better.

11. Arizona and Callie Fighting For Custody

It may just be be because this story line hit close to home for me, but this episode made my heart skip a couple beats.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
