So you decided to stay in Shippensburg this summer? Most of your friends went home for the summer and you landed an internship near Shippensburg. What on earth do you do around here?

1. Hike the Appalachian Trail

Shippensburg is surrounded by many places to hike and enjoy the outdoors. The Appalachian Trail, Sunset Rocks, Pine Grove Furnace, Michaux State Forest, and Caledonia State Park are a few areas and trails that are popular in among the college students.

2. The Shippensburg Community Fair

The Shippensburg Community Fair offers fun for any age. Bring your friends and family for a day or night jam-packed with fair food, rides, circus shows, and farm animals.

3. Bike riding or running on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail

The rail trail is a total of about 10 miles long from Shippensburg University to Newville. It is the perfect way to enjoy riding a bike or running without the traffic of the busy roads in town.

4. Drive-in movie

The Cumberland Drive-In Movie Theater is a great place to go to enjoy movies with friends. Load up your car with snacks for a fun evening out!

5. H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center

H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center has a variety of performances scheduled throughout the year. They include national Broadway show tours, cover and tribute bands, classical music, and comedians.

6. The Thought Lot

The Thought Lot is located right in downtown Shippensburg and is a multi-purpose space for local artists and cultural activities for the area. There are music performances, comedians, workshops, art exhibits, and theater performances held in this space.

7. Franklin County Cycling

Franklin County Cycling has group rides for all types of riders weekly on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Bring a friend and get a long ride in for some summer exercise! Join the Facebook page to get updates on the weekly rides.

8. Appalachian Brewing Company

Appalachian Brewing Company is new as of January 2018. They have a great selection of beer and food.

9. Swimming at Laurel Lake in Pine Grove Furnace

Laurel Lake is a free option when wanting to escape the heat of the summer!

10. Cabin on King Ice Cream

Cabin on King has some of the best sundaes in town! Perfect for a date night with your girlfriend or boyfriend!

Although Shippensburg may be a small town, there are plenty of things to do to keep you busy as long as you know where to go!

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
