Congratulations to Hillary Clinton. This week, she clinched the nomination of the Democratic Party for the Presidential race. Her opponent, and the man I voted for in the New York Primary, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, lost out because of a lack of delegates.
Bernie Sanders was my number one pick, and I’m sad to see his campaign come to an end. His candidacy sparked a movement that was marked with major discontent with the political system in the United States of America, and he pulled in far leaning Democrats in the left, as well as Independents and more moderate Democrats. He highlighted key issues with our system, and without his candidacy, the movement the spawned from it may have taken many more years to come about.
I think it’s time for something else. We all, as liberals and independents, need to throw our weight behind Hillary Clinton. While she isn’t my favorite choice, she is the necessary one. Throwing our weight behind her ensures that the demagogue and racist in the political right don't get the traction that he needs to win the race out, and establish himself as a frontrunner. What helps this cause is that the media is battling it out with Mr. Trump, calling him on his BS. See Jake Tapper, and his recent interview. Paul Ryan is condemning the remarks that Trump made when he insinuated that a Mexican Judge born in Indiana wouldn’t be able to do his job right when dealing with the case of Trump University.
Hillary Clinton is, by far, the most qualified candidate in this race. The fact that Donald Trump is managing to keep a tight race with her is grim is sad, but it’s the truth. Hillary Clinton is a former lawyer, New York Senator, and Secretary of State. Donald Trump is a businessman, and a reality shows star. When it comes to government management and experience, I’m going to go with Hillary.
To say that you’re not with her is fine. To say that you won’t vote because Bernie didn’t win, however, is irresponsible. Throw your weight behind a good cause, and help us keep a racist out of the White House.
