She Was An Object

Will I ever be good enough? I tried too hard but never got anything back.

She Was An Object
Michelle Cabanas

Something significant happened when she least expected it to. She was minding her own business when someone, or let's just say something, crossed her path. She asked over and over why is this happening now. She questioned it all the time. She let herself fall hard for someone who didn't even appreciate a second of her presence.

She talked and he "listened."

She smiled and he looked away.

She laughed while his face was blank.

Yet she still ignored the signs.

She was under a spell.

She admired him from a far and he was oblivious.

She thought that maybe he was just tired.

Little did she know that he was tired of her.

She was honoring her time to him.

Yet he never made time for her.

If he was sad, she was there.

She called off work.

She turned away from her friends.

Only for him.

All for him.

If she was sad, all she had was herself.

Yet she still didn't realize a thing.

She was in love.

She thought things were going well.

He hugged and kissed her like he meant it.

He talked about how much he liked her.

She even felt welcomed by the family.

Everything was okay until she got a text.

The "we need to talk," text.

She felt adrenaline go through her veins.

Her stomach tightened, she got nauseous.

Hyperventilating, grasping for air.

He would not answer until an hour later telling her he was still in love with his ex.

She felt her whole world collapse.

She felt gross, used, like trash.

Her eyes were so red, she lost herself.

She was humiliated.

She was just shocked.

No words came out.

Thumbs moved as they texted, "It was nice knowing you, goodbye."

She collapsed.

Hurled up into a ball.

At that moment she just wanted to disappear.

The next day she tried to get up but she felt wounded, she felt like she was stabbed.

She was ripped apart.

Because of the love and hate she felt for him.

Little did she know that things happen for a reason.

Little did she know that he was the one who did not deserve her.

Not a single tear did he deserve either.

She doesn't know how special she is.

She doesn't know that with one smile she can change the world.

She is beautiful, kind, and sweet.

She is the life of the party.

But he made her feel the opposite.

It is hard to let go, but she will soon find out the reason for why this happened.

She will soon move on with her life and be happy.

She will soon gain motivation again.

She will soon love again.

Because she is not an object.

No girl/boy is an object.

Don't start something with someone if you do not have good intentions.

I just hope they know they are good enough for anyone.

If not even better.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
