I love talk radio. Talk radio has been around since the 1920s and has changed a lot. Today’s talk radio is not what it was in the past, by a long shot. Yes, we still have old men yapping about the government and sports. I honestly only have a couple select favorites out of these DJs: Walton & Johnson and Dan Le Batard. In today's world, most talk radio isn’t even on the radio. It's in the form of something called podcasts.
There are thousands of podcasts out there, and you either love them or hate them. But for me, there is only one podcast. The “She Didn’t Text Back” podcast. “She Didn’t Text Back” is a one-hour podcast hosted by William Haynes and Daren VonGirdner. William Haynes is a comedian while Daren VonGirdner is a rapper/musician. Both are extremely talented and entertaining, to say the least. The podcast features a mix of rap, comedic life stories, listener emails and, more recently, listener Snapchat questions actually answered on the podcast.
Daren and Will started the podcast a little over a year ago, and success soon followed them. Their commentary throughout the podcasts makes you feel like you know them. I feel like so many radio DJs and casters don’t connect with their audiences the same way Daren and Will do. Many casters and DJs, when asked questions by their audiences, seem to shake off the questions and never actually answer them, much like how coaches and players do in sports. I feel with “She Didn’t Text Back” I am getting my question answered, even if I have never asked.
The topics discussed throughout the show are almost always interesting to me. These topics can include meeting Lil Dicky at a random party to Louie C.K. and Chris Rock sightings. Every episode has a new twist or story to it that is different from the last one. One of my personal favorite running gags throughout the show comes from Daren’s personal love life… Snake woman. Snake woman is this girl Daren dated/met that he thinks got him on the right track after dating her.
Honestly, when we listen to something new, whether it be live or prerecorded, don’t we just want to relate?
