Shanghai Disney Leading The Way To Tomorrow
On June 16th, 2016 the Walt Disney Company welcomed it’s 6th park into the world as Shanghai China opened the newest park. Shanghai Disney started construction back in 2011. From what started out as ideas now is the newest member of the Disney family.
The park is a new vision on what Walt envisioned. Main Street USA is now reborn as Mickey Avenue A fitting tribute to the mouse that started it all. It also pays tribute to Minnie, Donald Duck and Chip and Dale. Another area that was rebranded was Adventureland now know in Shanghai as Adventure Isle and Treasure Cove. Treasure Cove is home to latest technological ride Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the sunken Treasure. As seen in a YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6zXhoJe4iM) by Inside the Magic shows the jaw-dropping animatronics of Jack Sparrow and Davey Jones to effects of gold turning to coral. Yes it’s not the same as the classic in Disneyland and Disney World but it shows technology at it’s best and how a classic can be redesigned into an amazing thrill ride.
There is also the Standard Fantasyland and the largest castle in all of Disney Property. This Castle is not themed for a specific princess but for all of them. There also Winnie the Pooh spinning Honeypots a nice themed ride. Lastly is Tomorrowland there is sadly no space mountain there but they added a Tron light cycle roller coaster, which is pretty neat.
Shanghai Disneyland can be the jump-start to a new revolution in theme park technology. In the next five years maybe this technology will be used in the other parks as part of the new Star Wars and Toy Story Land or redesigning the old classics. Another question brought up is can this lead to more parks? It would be cool to see another Disney park open but there is finding the right location to build it. As Shanghai Disney is opening to acclaim the future for Disney is only looking brighter.
