Shane Dawson

In 2008, Shane Dawson began his YouTube channel, ShaneDawsonTV. We all probably remember the outrageous wacky videos with him dressed as a popular female character, Shanaynay. Over a decade ago, Shane was uploading videos that he even admits to looking back on and just cringing to no belief. Those videos were downright ridiculous. But we watched these videos religiously and shared them with our friends.

This time period is what millennials would consider, the good ol’ days; or, the original YouTube days. Over a decade ago we would spend hours watching Shane, Ryan Higa (nigahiga), and Jenna Marbles (jennamarbles). Although all three of these channels are still uploading videos today, you definitely should get back to Shane Dawson’s YouTube channel.

Shane has come such a long way in the past ten years. Shane is no longer posting weird, crazy videos with random characters, but instead uploads about his life a few days every week. He vlogs about his day to day life with his friends, along with the fun journeys that they embark upon.

Aside from documenting his everyday life, Shane creates new video series every week. These series include conspiracy videos, collaborating with other YouTubers, discussing past drama with his family, and helping smaller YouTube channels become bigger, to allow the creator to grow and live out their dreams.

In 2015, Shane came out as bisexual and today he is in an amazing relationship with his partner, Ryland Adams. Ryland and Shane live together in Los Angeles with their two adorable pets, Cheeto and Uno. Shane and Ryland truly have two of the best personalities on the internet, and they work together like magic. They're genuinely funny and make content that is so entertaining to watch.

Shane turns thirty years old this year and in my opinion, he's such a different person than he was a decade ago. I think with spending so much of your life online, you learn a lot about yourself. Not only do you grow as a person, but you grow as the role model that you want others to see you as. Shane's content also grows as he gets older. Within the past few years, his content has become more strong with every passing upload.

Shane genuinely cares about the content he creates and works hard to make sure his 12 million (and counting) subscribers enjoy the videos that he creates. Shane cares about others, sees the best in people, and helps everyone that he can live out their dreams.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
