Shane Dawson is literally my favorite Youtuber ever and I've been watching him since 2011 or 2012 when he was Shanaynay. What about when Shane had a mini music career with Superluv and the vacation song? Shane is genuinely kind and loves making people laugh.
Over the past couple of years, I've seen him struggle through a lot of personal issues. In 2015, he came out as bisexual and he broke up with his long-term girlfriend Lisa. I remember when this video came out and you could tell in his eyes that he was terrified. He wasn't fully comfortable with himself yet or his sexuality. He received a lot of hate on the internet over the years, but he never let it get to his head. Years later he meets Ryland and is super happy again and he's never been more happy of the content that he's creating right now.
At the start of 2018, Shane changed the type of YouTube content that he was creating, and he evolved. He's basically producing high-quality mini-TV series with his best friends on YouTube. Someone, please get him a real TV show! Shane admitted this year that he was having trouble with sponsors on YouTube, and most of his sponsors that he had lined up for videos bailed out on him at the last minute. Then there's the problem of YouTube trending everyone else except him.
It's so refreshing to see big Youtubers like Grav3yardGirl, Jeffree Star, Molly Burke and Shane Dawson be themselves and be vulnerable because after all, they are human too. These specific YouTubers don't care about all the views or the money, they want change to happen in the world and they want the same type of happiness that everyone else wants.
Shane helped Grav3yard girl, AKA Bunny, help revive her channel after it was dying for about a couple of years. Bunny's content changed, and she wasn't sure what she wanted to do versus what her subscribers would watch. She wasn't comfortable flaunting her house or her expensive cars because that's just not who she is. But Shane encouraged her to do whatever it is that will make her happy and that she earned all this. And because of Shane's series, Bunny's back to creating content that she wants and isn't so focused on the number of subscribers she has or the number of comments that she has. Right now Shane is working on a 5 part series exposing the secret life of Jeffree Star and this whole series will make you realize that you never know what goes on behind the camera and with all the fame and money. There's a completely different side of Jeffree that no one has ever seen before and it's amazing. I personally have known about Jeffree's music career and I was so disappointed when he stopped making music but now I know why! If you haven't taken the time to watch this series you are definitely missing out on a story of love, heartache, and dedication. I've never felt more inspired and proud of both Jeffree and Shane! I'm a proud sister! Click to watch the Jeffree Star series!
He also introduced the world to a legally blind girl named Molly Burke. Shane has two big fears; going bald and going blind. He faced his fears with Molly and she is literally the sweetest person ever! I remember one of my favorite parts of this series was when Ryland, Shane, and Molly crossed a busy street in L.A. while being blindfolded and Molly explained that most crosswalks talk to you and tell you when it's safe to cross but also there are some crosswalks that you have to hold your hand on and when it vibrates then you can cross the street. I had no idea about this! I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it is to be blind, or to a crosswalk in a busy area! Like imagine the cars noises, the people talking, doors opening and closing, bells ringing, music playing, and just all the noises in the entire world. Click to watch the Molly Burke series!
Also, let's not forget the series with Tana Mongeau and the situation with TanaCon. So, let me give you a quick summary to give you some background knowledge. Tana created her own con called TanaCon on the same weekend, by the same street which was hosting VIdCon for famous YouTubers. TanaCon was a massive failure for multiple reasons because there were supposedly free tickets and then $65 tickets that were supposed to be used as a fast pass to skip all the lines and for the meet and greets. The venue/hotel that they were in could only hold five thousand people, but approximately twenty thousand showed up for the event. There were people standing outside all day, getting sunburned and dehydrated, and screaming because they wanted their money back. A lot of people were angry because they had spent money on a hotel to stay in for the weekend, gas money, plane money, food money and then to get to TanaCon and stand outside all day was a complete waste of time. There was literally no one at TanaCon that saw someone else with a free ticket. So, did these free tickets even exist or was it just a scam to get people to buy $65 tickets? You should really watch this series because it's very interesting how everything went down and all of the inside stuff that the crowd and even Tana didn't know was going on. Shane popularized YouTube into being a place to check in and check out both a famous and a non-famous person. Shane was one of the first Youtubers that genuinely sparked the interest into the lives of the influencers. Shane did that! Shane Dawson is changing the quality and expectations of being a YouTuber and I applaud him. He's making TV series quality videos because that's what he loves to do. Whatever makes him happy, will make the viewers happy too. Which series is your favorite? What's your favorite vlog of Shane from the old days of 2014 and before when he would vlog his life every day with Lisa? What's your favorite Shanaynay video? What's your favorite conspiracy video, the flat earth theory or Mattress Firms being a laundering company? Shane deserves way more credit than what he is given.
