Why 'Shameless' Is A Great Show

As of lately, I have been seeing people hop on the Shameless bandwagon. Shameless, a SHOWTIME original series about a dysfunctional family from Chicago has captured hearts since it's release in 2011. My social media pages have been filled with memes and references to this show and how enthralling it is. My friends and family started watching it practically begging me to give it a shot. I just could never figure out why all these people started watching it. That was all before I gave into the hype. I fell into the abyss and I can't seem to get out, I'm stuck binge watching Shameless every free second of my day.

I am no professional when it comes to being a critic to a tv show, but as a college kid that watches a lot of Netflix, my opinion is top notch. I do have to say, this show is fantastic! I easily lose interest in series and I never finish watching them. So far so good when it comes to Shameless though. Every single character has a personality that captures the hearts of viewers. The whole Gallagher clan has distinctive properties that make it feel like they could be your own family. You have the bossy sister, annoying little brother, know it all brother, a gay brother, oddball little sister, and a baby. Six kids all together that form the Gallagher group and they certainly do not know what a normal day is like.

With an alcoholic father and mother who isn't around, big sister Fiona is in charge of taking care of all the younger kids. That includes getting them ready for school, making sure the bills are paid, working all sorts of odd end jobs just trying to get by. Then there is Lip (short for Phillip) who is the second oldest. He is a genius, too smart for his own good. There is Ian who wants to go into the Army one day but is going through life as a gay man but keeping it a secret from everyone. Debbie is the other girl in the family and just like any young girl she is trying to figure out who she is. Carl is a little heathen who likes to cause trouble and makes reckless decisions. Finally little baby Liam who honestly could be mistaken for another race because he looks nothing like his parents.

All of their misfortunes and tragedies seem to only break them down more only when things were looking up. There is never a dull moment in this series and I can't stop watching it. The Gallagher's, a poor family in south side Chicago that can't seem to catch a break. Whether it be drugs, robberies, kidnapping, arrests, nothing can break this family apart.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
