Crazy, But real, sh*T kids say at camp

As I am approaching my final weeks of camp I am starting to think about all of the amazing kids I have met and friends I have made. While initially, I thought summer camp would just be an easy summer job, I have quickly found that it is challenging, exhausting and rewarding all at the same time. Camp itself is just a job, but the people who attend it are what make it a fun experience. While the other counselors and I may complain about the kids at times, overall they are extremely adorable and at times unknowingly hilarious. Here is a list of the top 10 funniest, cutest and strangest things counselors have heard from our campers.

1. Someone has been sniffing cocaine and now they're hyper, who was it?

2. Ms. Rachel, do you have a baby?

3. We're going to go to UCLA and be roommates.

4. The word butt is very inappropriate.

5. Can we break the rules a little bit?

6. Sometimes I wish my pants were candy so I could eat them.

7. My little brother is a monster, literally.

8. How sassy is too sassy?

9. We are actually so adorable.

10. Can I please take you home with me?

So far camp has been an overall great experience. Children, while exhausting, are a lot of fun to be around. Often times they are funny without even realizing it. They say the first things that come to their minds without even pondering it. Sometimes I do not understand half of what comes out of their mouths and yet I always find it entertaining. Come August I probably will not miss having to wake up at 7:00 every morning and drag myself to work. However, I will definitely miss the adorable kids and the random, comical things that come out of their mouths.

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
