As the summer comes to a close and everyone starts getting anxious to get back to living on their own, studying (and partying) hard and reuniting with their best friends, you need to know what you're truly going to need coming back to school (or going if it's your first time).

1. Dorm Room Decorations

Whether you're a guy or a girl you're going to need something to decorate your room with. As for me, I'm always decorating my Pikeville dorm room full of Blackhawks garb. From posters to calendars to a jersey, you can find it in my room. What will yours look like?

2. Your Books!

It hit me today, classes start in three weeks and I still haven't ordered my books! Don't worry Chegg's got your back. Don't know what Chegg is? Check it out. It saves me hundreds of dollars each year, yes I mean hundreds! That's $100 more for food, gas, *cough* booze *cough*, oh and of course for school supplies that you really need.

3. Organization

My passion planner is my life. It keeps everything in order because I am so OCD. Figure out something that works for you and stick with it. From color coordinating notebooks to writing to do lists, this year needs to be the best one yet. So get organized and stick with it the entire semester!

4. Start Ahead and Stay Ahead

Get on top of all of your projects, homework and papers early and stay on top of it. No more procrastinating! It only causes unnecessary stress when finals roll around!

5. Make sure you have the essentials

Whether you're driving eight hours or flying across the country, don't forget to bring absolutely everything you might need! It's better to over pack than under pack. If you have old notebooks, books or folders with old assignments in them, bring them! I can't tell you how many times I've gone back to my physics and chemistry notes to help my friends. You never know when they'll come in handy!

6. Be confident!

Just know going into this year, whether you're a senior or a freshman, that this is about to be the best year yet! Walk into the classroom knowing that you are going to do great and you'll see better results than if you're timid. Don't avoid the social environment on campus, be drawn to it and make new friends!

7. Enjoy it.

As college kids, we always have something to complain about. Whether it's the amount of homework we have or the overwhelming idea of not graduating on time, it's always something. Just remember this: being in college is a lot more fun than working a forty hour work week. There are kids out there who wish they could be in college and adults who wish they would've gone. So whether you're a senior trying to hold on to what's left or a freshman ready to see what it's all about, just enjoy it while you're there.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
