Seven Professions That Are Under-Appreciated

I couldn't do half of the things on this list.

In life, there are lots of people who are admired, respected, and valued. Doctors, firefighters, athletes, the works. But there are some professions that I think often go under-appreciated. I made a quick list of professions that I think deserve some more credit.

1. Ballerinas

The way they twist and twirl and obliterate their feet for the sake of grace and beauty? The pure strength and skill that goes into it? I mean, really. People look up to professional athletes, and I'm sitting here like, pfft, please. Have you seen ballerinas? That shit is hard.

2. Baton Twirlers

Once again, pure skill. They make it look so easy! Incredible. Plus it looks sweet as hell, too.

3. Understudy

You know, understudies really don't get enough credit. I mean really. I feel like people forget that this person is literally the stand-in for when something happens to the main person. So they have to be just as good as the main person. Think about it. It's a lot like having two leads. Both equally qualified and talented. But people only care about the main person, they don't care about the understudy. Understudies deserve way more credit.

4. Janitor

If you're not going to pick up your trash, why should someone else do it? Be nice to janitors, they make places look clean and presentable.

5. Garbage Man

They take your garbage away for you. Can you imagine how annoying it would be if you had to take your trash to the dump yourself?

6. Mortician

Do you want to prepare dead bodies? Didn't think so.

7. Teachers

Honestly, yes, sometimes there are some teachers that just...shouldn't be teaching. But then there are some teachers that go above and beyond and know how to teach and how to do it well. So, kids, thank you teachers if you really liked them. Let them know they're actually doing a good job, so they can be reminded of why they're doing this in the first place and then can continue to do a good job for students in the future. Plus, I would not want to stand in front of a group of kids and try and teach them about stuff. Not the easiest thing.

There you have it, folks. Seven professions that don't get as much credit as they deserve. Next time you meet one of these people, let them know how cool they are. They definitely deserve it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
