7 Life Hacks At Ithaca College
The Daily Signal

I’ve always been an avid reader of life-hack articles. I think everyone should improve their way of living to make things simpler or more convenient. Here are seven little life hacks to get you through Ithaca College.

  1. Getting to Late Night in the snow?

Take the Library-Whalen route! You can enter the library from any entrance, walk up to the second floor and then continue to the left side near the men’s bathroom. There will be a door leading to a set of stairs! If you walk up them, you will come upon a door very shortly, this leads to Whalen! Congratulations you’re halfway there!!! Contine you down the hallway, make a left past the stairs, and head towards the doors! You will then see a mini hallway of sorts; from here you can either take the stairs up, or use the elevator (which is my usual choice). Then, voila, you are at the walkway which leads to the back of towers and terraces, which is also right near the Tcat pick up!!

  2. Still feeling hungry?

Bring a Tupperware to the dining hall and stock up on a meal. Maybe you’re running low on meal swipes and don’t want to spend the bonus bucks! The food is all there for your taking. Let me kindly remind you that approximately $80 is factored into your tuition to pay for stolen goods from the dining halls. So don’t feel bad if you have a bit of kleptomania when it comes to a fork or two.
  3. Are you really low on your printing budget?

Make friends with an honors student! You can also work harder and apply to the honors program yourself so that you get the perk of free printing. Regardless, honors students have free printing! But you really shouldn’t need to print that many things. We are given $15 which really should be able to last you the whole semester unless all of your professors are the spawn of satan and hope that all trees die.
  4. Campus Center Dining Hall line too long?

For Certain hours of the day, there’s a second entrance! It’s located on the same level as the “normal” entrance, but it’s around the other side! Right near the two outside sets of stairs next to Hood Hall or the main floor of Campus Center! It takes a huge chunk of time out of your day waiting in that long line! Go through the other entrance, they put it there for a reason.
  5. Ever find yourself needing more school supplies?

There’s a cart inside the walkway made for your everyday school needs! There are folders, binders, TONS of paper, pens, etc. It’s the perfect way to get some quick school supplies without spending ANY money, other than your crazy tuition bill of course. However, this pit-stop is only there during weekdays so if you’re in the walkway, stop by, see what you need. It’s right across from the Department of Education, right in the middle of Phillips, Muller, and Textor.

  6. Frustrated when you can’t find a place to plug in your laptop at the Lib?

Bring the power strip from your room! It was one of the best decisions I have made since last semester. Finals week was too frustrating trying to squeeze onto someone else’s power strip, or attempting to sign one out only to realize they’ve all been taken. It’s a very frustrating feeling. However, if you bring your own power strip, half of the struggle is gone.
  7. Running late to Smiddy?

If you’re anything like me, you are constantly trying to find the quickest and most pain-free way of getting somewhere. I recommend trekking up behind the library, it’s almost a straight shot to Smiddy. Coming from upper quads, or Towers this is the easiest route. Rather than walking down to the center of campus, walking along the designated paths, you can walk on the sidewalk at the parking lot. It gives you approximately two or three extra minutes to get ready in the mornings. You can either get to Smiddy through CHS or you can walk down the path between CHS and Whalen to come down the stairs outside CHS.

    Good luck students of IC!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
