7 Inspirational Quotes And Why They're Ridiculous

"I love you to the moon and back." OK, but like what happens when you get back from the moon? Does the love just end after that? Are you too tired from your trip to continue loving me?

7 Inspirational Quotes And Why They're Ridiculous

I don't know if anyone else is feeling this way, but I am sick of inspirational quotes. If I want to be a loser for a few weeks, let me and don't make me feel bad by posting your quote about how "success comes to those who work for it", because guess what? The only thing I'll be working on for the next week and a half is this season of "American Horror Story," and the only successful part about that for me is when I will finish it and start the next one. So, to relieve some stress that these quotes have put on me, here are seven quotes that just seem to grind my gears a bit.

1. "Never frown, even when your upset. You don't know who could be falling in love with your smile."

This quote is decorated on some board in my mom's house, and let me just say that as cute as it sounds, it's totally ridiculous. If I'm mad, let me be mad. If I want to cry, I'll let Niagara Falls flow out of my eye sockets. Don't tell me how to feel my emotions, you stupid wall decoration.

2. "In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take."

Okay, yes, this is about as inspirational as it gets, but you know what? I don't regret that one time I could have jumped over the ledge and ran onto the field of Neyland Stadium mid-game, but chose not to; however, I definitely regret the time I stood idly by and let my brother put a Walmart cart in the bed of his truck and drive away. Sometimes chances are just made for us to prove if we're really as stupid as life is accusing us of being.

3. "The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday."

Is this one just a joke? Because let me tell ya, I'm definitely going to try my hardest to be better than that one guy I dated who wore bro-tanks and gym shorts to fancy outings. I'll also try to be better than that girl who has led on every guy she's ever encountered for the past six years just to crush their hearts. Trust me, I've got way more people than just myself to try and be better than.

4. "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile."

Not always true folks. Live life for yourself! Eat that whole chocolate pie and don't offer to share with anyone! Spend all day in bed and worry about whether you're mentally up for hanging out with friends! Of course be kind to others and help when you can, but worry about yourself before you worry about most people who don't appreciate what you have to offer them.

(Bonus quote, just because it perfectly grasps the concept of how I feel about quotes.)

5. "I will go anywhere as long as it's forward."

So, basically, you won't go anywhere? But what if the path to get where you need to go was a few miles back? Oh, no, we won't turn around, we'll just pick a new destination. That's fine, everything's fine, I love being lost.

6. "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's learning how to dance in the rain."

Well, I left my umbrella at home and my rain boots are still on back order from Macy's, so until they come in, let me sit here and sulk about the fact that I just failed my English paper, OK?

7. "Enjoy the little things in life, because one day you'll look back and realize they were big things."

OK, this one I sort of agree with. I always knew that one time Olive Garden put six breadsticks in the basket instead of five would be the best day of my life.

OK, so quotes aren't that terrible, but it just felt really nice to rant about them for a while. I mean, you could be one of those people who post a quote with a picture of a minion next to it, and that would be terrifying, but that's all for a different article and a different rant.

Happy Quoting!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
