I've started knocking things off my extremely long Netflix My List and I'm starting off with "Seven Deadly Sins." We're taken straight into the high fantasy world Britannia with European Middle Ages style settings. High fantasy alone draws me in, and I'd been recommended to see this show by a friend and a family member, so I was going to get around to it at some point. This show is Netflix exclusive, and it is the company's second acquisition after "Knights of Sidonia." That meant I was most likely going to binge watch it and I've done that for 10 episodes straight.
The story takes place in Liones Kingdom where we are introduced to the Seven Deadly Sins, a group of knights who attempted to overthrow the kingdom but they disbanded. Apparently they were defeated by the Holy Knights, but rumors of their existence still float around. Ten years later, the Holy Knights have taken over the kingdom themselves, but the third princess Elizabeth sets out on a journey to reclaim the kingdom so she escapes hoping to find the Seven Deadly Sins and restore peace.
As the title suggests, the seven deadly sins are attributed to the main cast and they represent it in both their character and abilities. Meliodas, the first sin that Elizabeth encounters, is known as the Dragon Sin of Wrath. Despite having this name, he is rarely angry, but more so playful, perverted, confident and loyal to his friends. Ban is the Fox's Sin of Sloth, while he is violent and laid back and seems to care only about Meliodas and the other sins more than himself; he cares deeply about those close to him and is afraid of losing them. Diane more closely represents her Serpent Sin of Envy, having a short fuse, yet confident but jealous of any woman that Meliodas shows affection toward, and she expresses that with how close Meliodas and Elizabeth are. King is the Grizzly's Sin of Sloth. King also is known as Harlequin, the fairy king, and he was once the guardian of the fairy forest and the fountain of eternal youth. He is actually not quite lazy at all; he can be very fierce if the situation requires it. I've yet to find out whom the rest of the sins are as these four are the ones that have shown up for as far as I've watched.
The show is fantastic. I watched those 10 episodes in the span of two nights, and both of those sessions have been great. It's helped me out in writing out my Dungeons and Dragons campaign because it's so inspiring to me to write with the show playing in the background. The animation is absolutely beautiful. The epic fight scenes are easy to keep up with and they're well put together. I'm excited to see the rest of the show since every episode has been fun and it's got action in nearly all of them so far. Get on watching this show whenever you can, I highly recommend it.
