All I Want For Christmas Is You
I'm not talking about the Fifth Harmony version or even the Justin Bieber version, oh no. I'm talking about the Mariah Carey version that is and always will be the original and best version. Mariah Carey is an amazing singer and the ultimate Christmas diva, so it makes sense to put her first on this list. No Christmas is complete without this song.
Santa Baby
"Santa Baby" may have debuted back in 1953, but it's still pretty nontraditional. "Santa Baby" is that song for everyone who has high expectations for Christmas morning. I mean, who doesn't want a yacht, a ring, or a stocking full of checks. "Santa Baby" is also one of the few slow non-traditional Christmas songs for those who like it mellow.
Same Auld Lang Syne
"Same Auld Lang Syne" may not immediately seem like a Christmas song. However, it tells the story of an encounter between two people who used to be in love on Christmas Eve. This song reminds us that everyone, even exes are nicer to each other during the holidays and are reminded of the "good old days."
Marshmallow World![]()
"Marshmallow World" is another great non-traditional Christmas song, as it vividly illustrates the beauty of winter. Winter, though it may be cold and a bit annoying, is beautiful and a festive time of year. "Marshmallow World" is a great way to get into the holiday spirit when the weather is cooperating. Even if it's not, it's still fun to picture you're ideal marshmallow Christmas.
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Another Darlene Love classic, this song speaks to a lot of college students. Christmas tells the story of how it doesn't quite feel like Christmas because loved ones are not together. Any college student can relate because winter break can and will cut very close to Christmas and it's not easy to focus on finals when the holidays are on your mind.
Last Christmas![]()
"Last Christmas" is almost an anti-Christmas song. Instead of happiness and holiday cheer, we have heart break and betrayal. No matter, how depressing one might find this song to be, it's still a good tune to hear around this time of year.
Do You Want To Build a Snowman?
Yes, I know that Frozen is technically set in summer and that all of their songs are just Disney songs that could never cross over to holiday music. However, what is theses Disney songs could cross over into holiday music? Even though this song tells a long story about life and death, I can see it crossing over this the holiday scene for the same reason that "Marshmallow World" is a classic. I reminds people of the fun of winter and the wonders of childhood.
