Set 3 Goals A Day And Your Life Will Change

It's 3pm and I already did all my work for the day, how about you?

As a college student, each day mostly feels routine. Wake up, eat, get dressed, class, maybe work-out, homework, and sleep. College students are notorious for procrastinating. I partly attribute this to a lack of direction.

If your day isn't packed full of things to do, it's easy to spend your day watching Netflix instead of working on that paper due in a few days. It is overwhelming to have so much homework, social, and personal responsibilities to tend to.

Recently, I came across the "3 Goal Method" by one of my favorite YouTuber's Polina Beregova. Since implementing this method in my life, I am less stressed, anxious, and I am not procrastinating as much as I used to. The 3 Goals Method involves setting 3 goals for each day and 3 goals for the week. As for the goals, they do not have to be large, time-consuming goals.

For example, three daily goals for me may be: write my Odyssey article for the week, finish half of my Finance homework, and go to the gym. For weekly goals, I may want to finish my paper that is due next week, study for my exam in two weeks, and catch up with a friend I haven't talked to in a while. My weekly goals give me the opportunity to work on things throughout the week when I want to and when I have free time, as long as I get them done.

Since starting to set 3 goals a day and 3 goals a week, I found myself happier and more productive. By making myself accountable on a specific day to do something, it is less likely that I will push it off to another day or not get it done at all. By making goals small and attainable, I know that I have no excuse to not complete my goals. Of course, if there is a goal that I cannot complete for one day, it is alright to roll it over to the next day.

It is blissful to no longer have to try to fit five hours of work into two hours anymore because I procrastinated and didn't break my work into smaller parts. Once I accomplish my goals for the day and a few my goals for a week, I am free to do with my day as I please. I no longer have to spend my free time wondering what other productive things I could be doing that day because I have already completed everything that needed to get done.

Everyone, especially college students, should implement the 3 Goals Method in their lives in order to be more productive, stop procrastinating, and have more free time to watch Netflix without guilt (because who doesn't like Netflix).

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
