Nike And Kaepernick's Ad Has Lead To A Shoe Burning Protest

Colin Kaepernick's and Nike's collaboration really got some people fired up.

Just Do It just became Just Got Done! Nike teaming up with Colin Kaepernick is the smartest thing they could have done. I completely support Nike and Kaepernick! Although Nike working with Kaepernick is obviously more for financial gain, this collaboration does make a huge statement.

After Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem as a way to protest racial injustice, he opted out of the 49ers last year. Since then he has not been signed. This year Nike has made Kaepernick the face of their new ad, and of course, there is hatred toward it. In early September the ad was released and immediately after people made sure to express their disapproval.

People are now boycotting Nike for hiring Kaepernick. The only positive thing about this boycott is that people are now able to easily identify those who are Trump supporters, right wingers, and those who are a part of the Ku Klux Klan. As a way to boycott, people are setting their Nike shoes aflame. I couldn't make this up even if I wanted to. That's right, people are actually taking the shoes they have either purchased themselves or have gotten as gifts and are idiotically setting their shoes on fire. I say idiotically because those people who are against Nike's decision to hire Kaepernick are boycotting in a way that disadvantages themselves.

John Rich of the country music duo, Big & Rich (I've never heard of them either) tweeted "Our soundman just cut the Nike swoosh off his socks. Former Marine. Get ready Nike to multiply that by the millions." In response to this tweet comedian, Paul F. Tompkins wrote, "THIS IS THE GREATEST, STUPIDEST THING. If there is ANY upside to the ugliness of the wave of open white supremacy we are experiencing right now it is THE HILARIOUS COMEDY OF SHEER DUMBITUDE.''

As ridiculous as it is for people to do this, I'm not against them burning their shoes. In fact, I think that they should continue to buy Nike shoes and do whatever they want with them. I can sleep easily at night knowing that Kaepernick is going to get a great cut of the money these people are spending to buy shoes from Nike just so they can "boycott" and express their outrage.

Again, Nike knew that by collaborating with Kaepernick that they would make a huge profit; whether its people buying more Nike products to show their support for Kaepernick or its people buying more Nike products just so they can burn them later to show their hatred for him and Nike's decision. This was truly a smart move for Nike; however, I think that people would remember this more as Nike supporting Kaepernick's activism more than their want for financial gain. I definitely think that people will focus more on the message this act gave rather than about the actual intent behind it. This commercial is showing a positive message and also shows the number of people supporting him.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
