It's a crazy technology age and everyone is addicted to checking devices for notifications. Not only do people constantly check for notifications, but people are constantly texting, on the phone, checking e-mails and taking less time to notice the world around them. It’s a scary truth when realizing some of the worlds best technology has yet to surface. In a recent article on Daily Mail the truth was revealed about just how much time people spend using their devices.
“For almost a decade, humans have been wandering the planet with a small computer in their hands.”
When wanting to know just exactly how much time people spend on their phones the researchers found that “the average person swipes, taps and pinches their display about 2,617 times a day, for a grand total of one million times per year.”
This discovery does not include the elite ten percent that presses the display 5,427 times throughout the day, making that number equal to two million times over the course of a year.
With this just being the cusp of the technology age founder and CEO of dscout, Michael Winnick, stated,“I don’t think we are close to reaching Peak Digital. Reaching the peak digital age is a process that is going to get even more extravagant as time goes on.”
This reveals a lot about the generations now and the generations to come. The people today are addicted to phones and need to have the sense that they are always connected to the outside world. As time goes on, the balance between technology use and living life will become an even harder line to draw.
With seeing these results and understanding that this is the direction the world is going it is evident that taking a second to stop, breath and look up from the screen is needed now more than ever.
“We aren’t necessarily glued to our phones for long periods. It’s more like 76 reps a day with a five-ounce dumbbell”
This is an eye opening issue that people need to be aware of. Issues like this are how life’s best moments can pass by in the blink of an eye. This technology will never go away, but reminding yourself to enjoy and live in the moment every so often will make a world of difference in the long run.
