Not everyone in this world works in the restaurant industry. But, for those who do, we all know that it is a pain in the ass! You have customers to deal with, bosses and usually that one coworker that gets on everyone's nerves. For those of us who have low-key 'suffered' through this, here are some tips that we wish that customers knew before walking into the door:
1. When we ask "how are you doing?" The answer to that is NOT "I want a water."
2. Realize that you are probably not my only table, so you will probably not get first class service, but we will definitely try.
3. Usually when you ask for the manager, he/she will usually tell you the exact same thing that the server just told you. (but of course you'll only believe it when you hear it from the person in charge).
4. Taking more time to figure out what you want means that you're being pushed back even further in the kitchen
5. From the previously statement, this also means do not be rude when the food is taking a while.
6. It is usually not the server's fault if the food is taking too long, we do not work in the kitchen.
7. If it's not on the menu or the special's board, then the place probably does not have it.
8. Please try and remember that the wait staff works off of tips, so only tipping one dollar really hurts (mentally and financially).
So people, please realize that we are human beings too and deserve respect as much as you do as a customer.
