It's 9:30 on a Tuesday night, you've had a 12 hour day of bustling around between work and school, you turn the key in your lock, and immediately you hear the jingle of a little pink collar behind the door. You swing open the door to find your little fluffy grey miniature schnauzer wagging her tail at the speed of light while jumping for your attention. You pick her up in your arms, she gives you kisses, and cuddles into you.
You walk into the kitchen for your nightly routine; she chases her tail as you pour her food and make yours. It may not seem like a lot, but when it is just you two together in a small shoebox, she is your everything. You play back and forth, binge-watch Netflix, and then curl your way into bed, meanwhile, she wraps herself up in her plush bed.
As you scroll through your social media, you realize you are one in the same: you share a routine together, you lift each other up, you hold the same struggles, and you share your life together. This seems a little sappy for a dog; it honestly sounds like a romantic relationship, and it almost feels that way because they are a large part of your life.
Now imagine again: it's 9:30 on Tuesday night, you've had a 12 hour day full of a roller coaster of emotions. You turn the key in your lock, and swing open the door; you can feel the little ball of fur brushing at your ankles, begging you to pick her up.
You pour her some food and collapse into bed, after five minutes you hear the scamper of paws across the hardwood floor, and within seconds she is up in your bed showering you with wet kisses. The stress of the day instantly melts as her funny shenanigans bring a small smile to your face.
When you own a dog, life simply becomes easier. You always have someone to talk to (whether they talk back or not), the bad days become bearable, boredom goes out the window, and you are loved unconditionally.
You can do no wrong to your dog; you could leave her at the boarders for a week, and she would you know no difference. You could find another best friend, and she will just love them as much as she loves you. You will understand how much of relationship it actually is when you find yourself spending enormous amounts of money on her, and when you sacrifice your social life to make sure she is properly taken care of.
We honestly do not deserve dogs in our lives, because of how much they do for us, how much joy they bring to our lives, how much significance they bring to yourself, and most importantly, how much they love us. They can be quite the problem every so often, but those problems mean nothing once you walk in the door after a long day to be showered in kisses.
