September Starts A New Chapter In Your Book
Alyssa Gasa

September is here. There's no stopping it, there's no slowing it down. It's coming in full force for us and I'm ready to run right into it. This month, in particular, can almost be as transforming as the cherished January 1st if you allow it to be.

The transition from August to September can be especially difficult if you find that you thrive in the summer months. However, if hearing the word fall excites your soul, then September coming can give you that renewed sense of excitement for the year. Despite your love or despise of the month, you can't avoid the inevitable. As we go deeper into September, the cool autumnal winds blow in some much-needed change. What happens next when the winds catch up to you, is all up to you.

We all are in our own novels. Sometimes our storylines get intertwined in others but at the end of the day, we are the main protagonist of our lives. Chapters in our books can end, sometimes more often than we would like but that's not a bad thing. When a chapter in our life wraps up, it's not the end of our story. Since we write our narratives we can simply just write in another chapter. Right now every single one of us is in the middle of our stories. I don't care how old or young you feel, you've passed the beginning and you have a long way until the end. Everyone knows that the middle of a novel is where it starts to really get good. With that in mind, let August 31st be the end of a chapter and September be the start of a greater new one.

September is the month we all need.

The weather cools off ever so slightly, it gets darker earlier than we expect, and stores filled with Halloween decorations all as if on the same cue. It's the subtle changes that allow us to accept fall is coming. Vacations come to an end and school picks right up where it left off but these aren't things to be upset about. The return of school marks the return of normalcy. It gives us that spark to start up new routines and get in better habits. The summer blues fade away and our productivity seems to always skyrocket. All of these things lead to why September this year deserves its own chapter.

Being the authors of our stories gives us unlimited ways to change the way the story is headed. If the last couple weeks have been hitting you down hard, turn the page, start a new chapter, and take a step back. It really can be that easy if you let it. Evaluate what made the best parts good and incorporate more of that into your September section. It is easy to dwell on what went wrong but if we focused on what went right our stories would be better-off anyways.

I am ready for the change. Despite this summer being one of the best I've ever had, I'm embracing September's winds with open arms. I'm ready for this new chapter to start and for the comfort of fall to set in deeper and deeper. There's a lot of positive changes I have waiting to be written into this new chapter and September is the perfect time to be writing it all.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
