How To Show Your Inner Beauty

True beauty is found beneath the surface.

I was sitting in my car one day this week, and I looked out the window. Just as my eyes began to wander the great outdoors, they suddenly came to a halt. A flash of "Be beautiful" passed me. The words came and went, but they never left me.

The two commonly-used words were plastered on a campus bus. I think they were actually put there in an advertisement of the local mall, but to me, this meant something different, something more.

I couldn't stop replaying the words in my head. "Be beautiful," "Be beautiful," "Be beautiful." The words struck me like a song I didn't know I loved but couldn't quit singing the lyrics to. These words had resonated within a deep part of me. Why, though?

This was something I had to work out for myself, and by sharing these thoughts with you, I am guiding you to your very own sense of beauty- your true beauty.

The phrase "Be beautiful" should speak to everyone, but not just in a glam kind of way. We often associate beauty with attractiveness and style. We look at the surface but refuse to dig. Well, I'm here to tell you that if you want to find true beauty, you're going to have to pick up the shovel and get to work. Dig.

Beneath the surface, you'll find the things that truly make a person beautiful. Things such as showing kindness or being adventurous. And maintaining courage, compassion, and reliability. Oh, and don't forget to stay generous, driven, and most importantly, loving.

Show kindness. Don't forget to be nice to people. It sounds so simple, but sometimes it takes an effort to be the best version of yourself. Forgive, forget, and let go.

Be adventurous. Don't be boring. Life happens, and you tend to find a routine way of doing things; don't. Instead, mix things up. Wear two different colored socks. Go outside and blow bubbles into the wind. Do the unordinary.

Act courageously. Stand out in a crowd. Everyone's voice deserves to be heard, including yours, so make it count. Say your own words. Stand up for your own beliefs. Stick to your own actions. It takes courage to wear pink in a sea of blue.

Be compassionate. Always remember the person next to you has feelings too. No two paths are the same, so don't be so quick to judge. Take time to understand your neighbor, and be the person of influence they need.

Be reliable. Keep your best friend's secrets. If someone trusts you enough to confide in you, prove your worthiness by being reliable. Be the secret-keeper. It's much more satisfying this way.

Show generosity. Give to others. Involve yourself with your community. Join a club, and give back. Or, give to others what you don't need anymore. Like they always say, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

Stay driven. Self-drive is important. A healthy drive leads to success, and success leads to happiness-something we are all in search for.

Be loving. The most important one of all: pour your love on the people closest to you. Take time out of your day to make your loved-ones feel special. Show them you are thankful for them.

Once you start digging, you'll find these special pieces of you that you totally forgot you possessed. These are the best parts of you, and these qualities are what really help you find your sense of beauty. Now that you've found them, put them in your pocket. Save them, and don't ever forget to hold on to them.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
