The last year before adulthood...

Senior Year As Told By 'Awkward'

Two words: senior year. Honestly, I never believed everyone when they said that this year would come so fast, but it did. It felt just like yesterday that I graduated high school and moved onto college. I still remember how awkward I was that first year of college and how much has changed since then. Four years later and I can somewhat confidently say that I am an adult; however, I'm still just as quirky and awkward as the 'old me.' Going into senior year has flooded me with varying emotions that can be summed up by Awkward (you know that show on MTV that ended which followed a girl and all the *pun* awkward times she has).

1. When you actually have time to go out with your friends for your last year together and your questioning making some poor decisions

2. When you run into that guy/girl you use to talk to/hooked up with on campus

3. When you still have episodes of teen angst

4. When it's your friends birthday and you're too poor to get them a real gift because you're four years in debt

5. Speaking of friends, you try not to make rude comments about the friends you've lost over the years, but hey give yourself a break you're only human

6. The feeling of confidence on your 1st day because you're finally a senior and knowing all freshman have no clue what they're doing

7. When you finally feel confident in your own skin because you learned that your opinion is the only one that matters

8. When you and your friend are in the same class together and it's an easy A

9. When people you graduated high school with (or even younger) are getting married and having children and your just like

10. That moment when you feel like you've made your parents proud and they start making comments like this to you

11. When maybe you realize you still have a lot of growing up to do because you still make terrible comments

12. When your friend is trying to set you up but you're happy with where you are at in your life

13. When you spent the day watching Netflix instead of actually doing your homework

14. When someone asks if you're a freshman

15. When you no longer live on campus and are jealous of everyone who has easy access to food

16. You finally know who your real friends are and you're into the same things

17. When you realize you don't have to act fake anymore because you only have a year left

18. When you know that you'll have to be a real adult in just a year (or a few if you have grad school) and it fills you with complex emotions

19. When you find out how expensive grad school applications actually are

20. And when you get interviews for grad school you know it's time to be cut-throat

21. When you're on your final semester and a professor gives a comprehensive final

22. And this is how you feel when your studying for your last finals

23. When you're finally done with school and you see the amount of debt you are now in

24. When you reflect on how much you changed and thinking that this is true

25. And when you're finally done with school you have time to do what you really want to do

Enjoy your senior year, it's the last year before you become a real adult. Study hard, but also save time for fun activities and try not to get too stressed. After all we all have grad school, job hunting, careers, and house hunting to look forward to after graduation.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
