This morning I woke up to a Facebook notification that read: "So-and-so" was marked safe in the violent event in Las Vegas. My heart stopped as I began to read the news that has shocked and hurt the world today. You never think it'll happen to your hometown, to a place you love and hold so close to your heart.
But it does. And it did.
I miss Vegas every single day. I loved California and I love Texas, but I'll always consider Las Vegas my hometown. To think that someone decided to commit such a heinous, purely evil act in a town I grew up in sickens me. I could talk about gun control. I could talk about how I think civilians legally purchasing and owning automatic guns is completely asinine.
But I'm not going to get into that. I'm not dismissing the politics of this situation. I'm not going to act like this shouldn't be a major discussion that needs attention. I know it all is. I know and actively want there to be change. I want there to be justice for the lives lost not only today but in every mass shooting. What I do want to do is take a moment to think, reflect, and cherish those we have lost. I want us all to thank God that we have all lived to see another day.
I want to praise the brave and compassionate souls that put their lives on the line to help and protect others. I want us all to take a minute to think, pray, and care for those affected by this senseless tragedy. Las Vegas is truly a city of love, light, and life. The world is a little darker today. I love you Las Vegas.
