Halloween is right around the corner and apparently, so are creepy clowns.

A teen in Kalamazoo recently made threats scary enough that a local school district had to increase security.

Recently two teens in unrelated Massachusetts incidents were arrested. One was a freshman boy who wore a clown mask to a school assembly and pretended his phone was a gun. The other teen was accused of putting "clown hoaxes' on social media.

One boy actually reported being grabbed by a clown and cut with a butter knife. So what's with the clown's this weekend? And how are we supposed to distinguish between harmless pranksters and people in clown makeup that actually want to hurt us?

We can't.

And that's the problem. Even though there's plenty of fun and games going on this Halloween season, and staged videos on youtube of clowns chasing teenagers around, the scary part we have to remember is we really don't know who's behind the clown costume. And neither to the cops and others who's job it is to protect us.

The latest trend in society is on the sinister side and as a society, we should be taking it a little more seriously. On another note, the few "bad clowns" out there are ruining it for the professionals. To combat this, there was a walk in Arizona called "Clown Lives Matter" the purpose was to show people the "fun side" of clowns and how they were created to bring joy to people, not horror.

I'm not so sure that's a good thing, though it's sad a whole profession is being ruined, some of these clowns are dangerous, and it's safer to be a little cautious about this.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
