If you haven't already taken an interest in Florida State's baseball season of 2019, you definitely should. While everyone keeps switching their opinions of Florida State by calling us a "basketball school" instead of a "football school", maybe we should start calling ourselves a "baseball school."
On Friday, February 15th, the Seminoles baseball season officially started with a weekend packed with games. Don't be worried for he however because they left the weekend strong with all wins against the Maine, Black Bears at our home, Dick Howser Stadium. They will continue their season throughout the following weeks and we can only hope the winning streak continues.
The team is full of phenomena from the players to the batgirls to the coaches. To start it all off Coach Mike Martin is entering this season for the 40th time and unfortunately his final time since he is supposedly retiring the following season. This statement should be raising a flag in your minds right now merely because if this is potentially his last season, we should all expect it to be his best Why? You ask, because who wouldn't want to end their career right. Along with a Coach who's been known for being amazing for years, he has lined up a team to lead him to the victory he deserves.
To start, the team has acquired many freshman starters that have already caught the fans eyes including; cater: Mat Nelson, shortstop: Nander De Sedas, left field: Elijah Cabell and designated hitter: Robby Martin. Two of the freshman even have outstanding statistics in this past year of the MLB draft. Nelson was the 39th draft and started for the Philadelphia Phillies, while De Sedas was ranked 55th best player. Besides the freshman, there are many players on top of their game this season.
So, keep your eye out for the baseball statistics this season and get ready for a win to come for the Seminoles! The newsletter "Baseball America" has even predicted them to be one of the eight teams to make the College World Series this year. If we all come out for the games, maybe it will be the cherry on top of an amazing final season for Coach Mike Martin.
