A Semester in 21 stages

It is that time of year again where I can finally say I am done with the semester and that I survived. Thank God. It was rough but I can breathe again... and it feels good. Everyone starts off the semester on amazing note of happiness and hope but then slowly dies after the first exam. I truly get your pain. Really, I was right there with you. We all try to balance a fun social life and a 4.0 average, but then find out that is impossible unless you are made of caffeine and sleep is never even a thought. So now, I want to go through all the stages of the semester and take you with me. That's right. Week 1 through the end of finals. Give it up for the 21 stages of the a college semester in one great article.

1. Syllabus Week is the best week ever

It consists of 10 minute classes and going out every night. It's a special type of bliss.

2. Realizing your weekly homework will only count for 5% of your grade

100 algebra questions a week? Bye.

3. Rate My Professor is your best friend.

This professor won't even give extra credit? Time to check out the other options.

4. Acing all your syllabus quizzes like

Command F that Syllabus!!!

5. Looking at all your A's 2 weeks into classes

I am seriously a genius. Bow down to me, parents.

6. Being able to go out and not stress over school yet

Do I care about my 9 am tomorrow? Yeah, no.

7. Knowing your first exams are next week...

Exams can wait, time to live.

8. Attempting to study like

Too tired to care about school. I mean, naps are way more enticing than studying.

9. Wishing you could hide out in the nurses office on the day of your test

and then you remember you're in college :/

10. Looking at your grades half way through the semester

Is that a D? When did that happen?

11. Deciding you need to get your life together for midterms

The library is my new home for the week. Bye bye Netflix.

12. Saying no to going out is painful.

Begging my friends to stay in with me. FOMO is real.

13. Studying so hard and getting a C

What happened to syllabus week?

14. But then you have an online test and all the answers are on quizlet!!!

There is a god!!!!

15. Getting to that point in the semester where going to class is painful

I think I'll just skip my 9am for the 4th time in a row.

16. Asking that one girl in class for notes again like

I couldn't come to class. I, uh, had an appointment.

17. Realizing Finals start next week

Hello anxiety. Goodbye sanity.

18. Your study group are your new besties

Help me pass please!!

19. 2 am caffeine and cramming

We've all been there. If you haven't, you will soon be welcomed to the club.

20. Waiting for Final grades to come out like

C's get degrees, right?

21. Feeling #Blessed to be done with school...for now.

Didn't fail out of school and somehow survived the semester. Sounds like success to me.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.
