The term of “self” is a foreign concept to many. We only have one of ourselves yet sometimes its hard to get caught up in the ways of life to actually take care of ourselves.
If we feel a sort of pain or problem then our first instinct is to go to the doctor to get rid of our pain. However, what if that pain isn't something visible or has a distinct root cause for. Something like a built up of emotions. Emotions are something we need in order to survive, in order to be human.
We mourn a loss.
We show signs of anxiousness in times of worry. We can be angry when something negative happens, etc. Emotions are a part of life, a way to cope, a process we need for sanity. However, sometimes life gets too busy, so busy that even our emotions are pushed away. A loss of a loved one turns into a “just another one gone”. Stressful situations can turn into “whatever, that's life”.
BUT
It's important to realize that everything comes back around. Pushing your emotions away today will make them come back tomorrow. Its all a build up, an accumulation.
It's so easy to convince ourselves that our health can wait. That our emotions are invalid and not important, but the more we run away, the more we are chased. Chased from our feelings from the past, chased from our feelings from the present, and soon enough, our feelings from the future.
What we fail to realize is that ingesting our problems, or pushing them aside CAN lead to future problems. Mental health is a serious epidemic because it's easy to forget about yourself and get lost in secondary factors When your primary focus should always be taking care of yourself.
Try to imagine this scenario: Being able to fulfill your goals. Completing your required education, acquiring a dream job, starting a family. How does all of this matter, if your health is at risk? If for some reason you cant find solace in your accomplishments because your mental health is finally catching up to you. As soon as you have a moment to breath, to reflect. A million emotions flying inside of you like a tornado of pain.
If you cant save yourself today, how are you going to save the world tomorrow?
