Note To Self

Don't give people the power to make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

The Artidote

Some classic advice.

Do not shout your accomplishments out every time you obtain them. Be quiet.

With today's society, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Tumblr and etc. take up a significant amount of our lives– and what do we do with these social media platforms? We post about what we had for breakfast, our new iPhones, our baby's first steps, new shoes. So, what do these all sum up to be? Moments in our life that we are full of pride and happiness about.

I’ve never been one to broadcast much that I’m doing-whether beneficial or not, specifically because I know that doing this has the potential to allow myself to get distracted with opinions in which I wouldn’t necessarily choose to hear. The thing is with this is that you never know who is plotting on your downfall. You never know who is smiling in your face but hoping and wishing that you are miserable. And unfortunately, some of us deal with friends or maybe even family that aren't genuine enough and wish the worst on our accomplishments or choices that we make for ourselves.

This is where it gets tricky. I know you want to shout and scream to the world all that you have done or plan to do— who wouldn't?

But by doing this-like I said, you're allowing other people's energy into your surroundings. You're allowing negativity into your choices. You're allowing another voice in your subconscious stating that you are not able to do it. You don't realize how much power that affect could have on you and that is what is crazy about it.

You may want to quit a job because you are not happy with it and start a business, switch your major, opt out of something that you've been putting your mind to for years or might just now thought about a project that you want to start and tell someone in regards of only looking for advice or their perspective on it. You just wanted to prosper on to a better life, you want to move out of your comfortable zone and now what you get back is completely opposite and full of negativity. Who wants that?

They may scream out your failures and whisper your accomplishments. They may do or say certain things just to make you act out just to see that reaction out of you. They may say that you're not good or smart enough, that you don't have enough of experience and so on. If you have that energy around, how is this helping you? So, now you may talk yourself into thinking the same thing. Which in result, then leads you to not go through with your dream.

Do you understand?

All I am trying to get through your mind is that you are good enough for it, you do deserve it.

What you absolutely do not deserve are people that are around you not supporting, benefiting or respecting you in any sense of the word. I mean, what are you keeping them around for? To just keep you from being happy and moving forward with your life?

Build and invest in yourself, create for yourself. Think for yourself. These specific people that secretly wish the worst on you don’t deserve to share such a blessed time in your life.

Stay focused.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
