Self-Love (My Sonnet)

Dear Diary:

I am appreciating myself

All my flaws and shortcomings

I see them now as blessings

And I am fleeing the realms of hell.


To love someone I will love myself

That is the newfound philosophy

If I don’t, how can I see

The wonders of someone else?


My world is of literature, rhythm, and color

Books, music and art are my joys

In them I find my voice

And it’s a voice of joy and laughter.


I will welcome my true nature

I’m going to try and express it

For I discovered I’m really fortunate

To be someone with these flavors.


Will you then love me for all that I am?

Me with all my imperfections,

And me with all my lessons?

You will need to prove you can.


Because I appreciate myself now more than ever!

With all my gifts and talents,

I’m slowly beginning to have more confidence

So, will you be my lifelong partner?

Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
