How To Balance Self Expression And Professionalism

Yesterday I found myself telling my stylist, as I normally do, to be creative. With one idea in mind, I wanted an under shave. She looks at me shocked because there is an opportunity for her creativity to be set free from a dreary world focused on stifling the cries for individual thought. We went with an under shave and magenta hair.

My before and after photos show my original color before I decided to express myself. This is not the first time my hair has had "unnatural colors", but I have never done my full hair. Being extremely excited and confident about my hair, I called the suit that I love dearly and told him about my hair. His response was that "as long as it looks professional," in a moment of frustration I became extremely frustrated. It bothers me that he allows the concept of professionalism to keep him in a box. I have seen him take a pencil and paper creating a magical experience. A side of him I am sure few have ever seen, because he allows ambition to take over. Don't get me wrong I am probably one of the most ambitious individuals out there, but there is an inner battle that I struggle with. Regularly, I am dealing with my artistic side that loves self-expression. My belief is that the body is a canvas, your hair, your makeup, your body art, everything is an opportunity to show who you truly are.

Without art, other aspects of life cannot exceed. Science would not exist as we currently know it. I say that the business world needs self-expression because there is a need for a new perspective on the inner workings of the world. Someone should be able to express themselves creatively. Ultimately a creative mind is needed in a court of law so that a case can be observed in many fashions. Every part of the world benefits from self-expression. When someone is able to be themselves they reduce their risk of depression. Being in a constant box that society places people in can be harsh.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
