As the cold weather is rolling in, there comes a change in the way we need to take care of ourselves, physically and mentally. During cold weather seasons, we don't feel like enjoying the outdoors as much. The lack of bright sunshine can make us feel like we're in humongous cave. Our skin becomes drier and the need for extra layers becomes a must. I've created a list of all the necessities to self-care and pamper yourself this winter.

1. Moisturize your skin and hair

This may seem like a no-brainer, but are you applying correctly? The best time to this is right after you shower when your skin is still a little damp. If you fail to not moisture your skin, it can lead to eczema and extra itchiness you don't need. Also to prevent serious dry skin remember to not make the water temperature in the shower too hot. Remember conditioner is a MUST for hair in the winter and you don't need to shampoo and condition everyday either. Every other day is healthy for skin and hair during the winter.

2. Drink Tea

The traditional drink to have around the Holidays and winter time in general is hot cocoa or eggnog, but consider switching to your favorite tea. Tea has a lot of health benefits depending on what type of tea you chose to sip on. This is also a great soother for a sore throat and stuffy nose. If you battle anxiety, but still want caffeine, tea is also a great choice. The caffeine in tea effects your adrenaline levels differently. This means you become less shaky and anxious, but still get a boost of needed caffeine. My favorite tea brands are Twinnings tea, Traditional Medicinal, and Stash Tea.

3. Move with Yoga

If it's a day you don't feel like doing anything outdoorsy or don't feel like driving to your gym, use Youtube to find yoga video guides! This gets your body moving and stretched out as well. A favorite of mine is shown below.

Also, another great yoga flow to tone muscle and stretch out (it has beach sounds in as well and the Yogi's voice is so calming).

4. Get your nails done!

Bring some color into your day by getting your nails with a cute design you enjoy or a solid color is awesome too! Remember nail polish isn't only a seasonal idea!

5. Don't stay inside all day

Take your dog (or if your cat will go - sorry for no pet owners) for a walk in the mid-afternoon, when it's the warmest. Ten minutes outside in the fresh air can help rejuvenate yourself. Other fun outdoor activities include ice skating or having a snowball fight!

6. Turn up the dance beats

Moving around can help us feel less stressed and even gives us more energy! Crazy right? Turn on the tunes for 20 minutes (hopefully no one is home or dance with your best friend!). Artists I find help to groove is Misterwives, We are in the Crowd, Paramore, Vinyl Theatre (Go Milwaukee Music!), Reyna, and K.I.D.

7. Buy a good pair of Wool socks

They will save you when your house or apartment is frigid from the outside weather. Keeping your feet warm, especially in frostbite weather is a must. L.L. Bean has inexpensive wool socks that are nice and comfy.

8. Keep eating healthy and make sure to take your vitamins!

Vitamin D is a very important vitamin to retain because of lack of sun. Remember to eat seasonal fresh winter vegetables and fruit!

Have a great and safe winter everyone!

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Obsessive Thoughts Keep My Brain Stuck On A Loop And Me Stuck On My Couch

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.
