The end of the semester is a stressful time. With studying, writing papers, presenting projects, and getting ready to end the year, it's important to take time for yourself. Stress builds up quickly, and the more you have piled on top of you, the less productive you'll be. So make sure to take some time for yourself during the end of the semester. Here are some ways to promote self-care:

1. Take a Nap

Naps are great. They allow you to pause from hectic days and recharge your body and mind.Even a short nap will allow you to feel refreshed and energized. Just make sure your nap isn't too long, otherwise you might end up waking up feel groggy.

2. Go for a Walk

Nature is a natural mood booster. Go for a walk to a local park or down a bike path, you'll be amazed how quickly you'll feel better. Plus if you stroll around areas other people might be, there's a good chance you'll find people walking dogs they'll let you pet. Pro-tip: turn your phone on silent and just enjoy the sights and sounds around you. It'll make your walk even more rewarding.

3. Do a Face Mask

Face masks are so relaxing, and there are so many different types of them! Go to your local drugstore and buy an inexpensive one, or make one from scratch. Close your eyes and do some deep breathing while you wait for your mask to dry. Afterward your mood and skin will feel improved!

4. Dance to Your Favorite Music

Take a few minutes and put on your favorite music. Dance around your room to it like no one is watching. Doing something physical to get your mind off stress is a great form of self-care.

5. Write

Writing is a proven way to get out your feelings. Whether it just be journaling about your day or writing a creative story or poem, writing down what you're thinking helps you destress.

6. Do Something Active

Physical activity is a great stress reliever. Go to the gym for a good workout or get your friends together for a game of soccer. Find something you enjoy and get your body moving. You'll feel so much better afterwards.

7. Make some Art

If you enjoy art, go make some. Drawing and painting helps relieve stress and clear your mind. Even if it is simple as coloring a picture, making art will allow you to take your mind off things.

8. Call Someone

It's amazing how great you can feel after talking on the phone to someone you know cares about you. Call your mom, dad, or best friend and tell them you just need to talk about life. If you let them know you just need someone to listen to, typically they'll understand. It'll feel great getting everything off your chest.

9. Meditate

Practicing mindfulness is a proven way to relieve stress. Just closing your eyes and focusing on your breathing will promote self-care. Taking a timeout to let go of everything on your mind and just breath is a great way to relieve stress.

10. Goof Around

Take five minutes to do something you don't normally do everyday. Pretend to be a kid again and go play on a swing set, or roll down a big hill; whatever it is, go out and goof off. It's okay to take a time out and forget about adult life, especially during these stressful last weeks of school.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
