When you hear the word "self-care," many think of it as an action you do for yourself when you aren’t on top of your game. You give yourself extra care when you are down in the dumps and when you are sick. In reality, every single human on earth can and should indulge in self-care. Humans shouldn’t turn to self-care when they are in need of it. Instead, we should give ourselves unconditional love and care every day of our lives. We should make it an effort to put ourselves as top priority. This is not selfish, this is simply self-care. If you think about it, we can provide the best help and love for others when we start with ourselves. Taking time out of everyday to focus inward will help balance our life and let me tell you, becoming your own best friend is the best feeling and every human deserves to feel it!

Have you ever felt like you weren't living to your fullest potential? Or that you could carry so much more light and energy inside you? After being on autopilot for weeks and weeks, I decided I wanted to start living. I made the conscious decision that I no longer wanted to live a life that is led by my anxious thoughts and past regrets. Don't wait for something out of the ordinary to happen in order for you to wake up. Realize now that life is too short to do anything besides live in each magical moment. Open your heart and love yourself. It could be as simple as waking up each morning and sitting on your front porch, watching the vast sky gently move. Start writing in a journal as you dissect your brain from your thoughts. Read an inspiring book that when you put it down, you are determined you can and will change the world. Have a meditation session in your backyard as you learn to sit with your thoughts and not let them overwhelm you. Go to a yoga class and listen to your body, mind, and soul as you connect to them like never before. It's pretty magical how these simple steps have made a huge impact in my day and life.

Now I’m not saying you have to read, write, yoga, and repeat. What I’m saying is to take some time out of your day and get fully involved in yourself. You deserve it! Self-care should be a common act we spend each day doing. We all have time! Time is just a concept, and we have all the time there is. It is very important to take your foot off the pedal and stop for a moment to reflect on your life goals and achievements. We are never too old nor too young to love ourselves endlessly, to give our body and mind the time they deserve and to not force or ignore any thoughts in our heads. To also let go, simply, and be OK with what is happening in our heads.

I encourage you to go forth with self-care. Whether it be 10 minutes or an hour, take a mini vacation from your hectic day. Get some fresh air, walk your dog, or go on a bike ride. From now on, start thinking about self-care as a mandatory step to help your body grow. Hug yourself and love yourself!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
