Nowadays, self-care seems to be frowned upon. Some people see it as a pointless waste of time. That mentality is incorrect. Self-care is an incredibly important aspect of life. It is important to slow down every once in a while and allow yourself to relax while you pamper yourself. This allows you to feel more in tune with your body and at ease. The following list includes all of my favorite self-care methods.
1. Drinking tea
Drinking hot tea always seems to relax me. As I feel the warmth spread me, I just feel calm and content.
2. Meditating
Meditating is so calming for me. It doesn't have to be religious if you don't want it to be; it can just be a reflection of your day. Paying attention to your breathing patterns helps with clearing your mind.
3. Napping
Napping is honestly so fantastic. Many people don't like the idea of napping because they could be spending that time doing something else, but I find napping to be very refreshing. Though I can't seem to take 20-minute naps, naps that last for an hour and a half are truly the best. I suggest setting an alarm for 1 hour and 45 minutes to give yourself time to fall asleep.
4. Listening to classical music
I love finding tracks on youtube that play relaxing classical music with rain behind it. It's super soothing and provides good background noise for when I'm studying or cleaning my nails.
5. Grooming your nails
When I have to listen to a chapter from my English textbook, I've found that cleaning my nails allows me to focus on something else while I'm listening to the chapter. I cannot seem to focus on one thing at a time; I always need to multitask. Cutting and filing my nails doesn't require a lot of attention, allowing me to still pay attention to the textbook.
6. Reading
I am always reading. Whether it's on my phone or one of the many books I carry in my backpack, reading is my go to. Reading allows me to express my emotions through a character. Personally, if I don't cry while I am reading, I will cry in public when I get frustrated which is not fun for anybody.
7. Taking care of other things
There are many things in my life that I love and take care of. I have a fish, a puppy dog, and ten plants that I cherish and spoil with love. Caring for other things brings immense joy and positivity in my life.
These seven practices are very helpful for self-care. They have allowed me to relax and cool down when I most need it. I absolutely 100 percent recommend each one for frequent use.
