Whether midterms are getting you down, Valentine's Day is pissing you off, or you're just worn out from everyday college life, it's important to take care of yourself, physically and mentally. "Self-care" is a concept that entails taking time to do nice things for yourself in the name of self-love and mental health. Here are some great ways to relax and rejuvenate from your dorm room:
1. Make a microwave feast
Whether it's frozen lasagna or a microwaved mug cake, find something yummy to cook up and take a break from eating cafeteria food, fast food, or getting dressed up to go spend money on an overpriced dinner.
2. Pamper yourself
Lounge around in a silk bathrobe, cover your face in a mud mask, lather up in coconut oil and paint your favorite feel-good color on your toenails. Nothing brightens the mood like treating yourself right.
3. Release the tension
Spend a few minutes stretching or find a relaxing yoga flow online. Add some soothing music, dim the lights, and get ready to let the stress go!
4. Put on your reading glasses
Pull out your fuzziest blanket, make some tea, and curl up with your favorite book or magazine. Whether it's Cosmo or Charles Dickens, reach for something you know you'll enjoy.
5. Make some art
Find a journal prompt online, follow a drawing tutorial, or embark on a new craft project like tie-dying or jewelry making. You'll zone out in artist mode and have something beautiful to show for it!
6. Beautify your space
Maybe I'm the only one who finds cleaning relaxing, but a ten minute sweep of your tiny space can leave it looking refreshed. Your space is a reflection of you, so clear out the old pizza boxes and spray a fresh scent to make things a little more heavenly.
7. Meditate
Follow a guided meditation video, focus on your breathing or just lay still and clear your mind. If you end up napping, who's going to complain?
