10 Things We Need to Hear to Better Ourselves

In This Article:

It is extremely difficult to keep up with your mental health and we often can get lost in our own minds. Sometimes, all it takes to help you keep up with taking care of yourself are small steps. It can be small things you need to change to better your life. It can be things that are hard to accept or are hard to do. Here are 10 things that can help your mental health and bring you happiness.

Stop trying for people who aren't doing the same.

Giphy

We want to keep in touch with people or we try so hard to keep a relationship going that feels one sided. Whatever it is; it is something we need to stop doing if it's not reciprocated or only met half way. We shouldn't keep bending over backwards for people who wouldn't do the same.

Stop rushing into things.

Giphy

Stop feeling like you need to have everything figured out or that you need to keep up with everyone else. Sometimes it is good to take things slow and figure out what you want. Just continue to make the effort.

Keep up with your hobbies.

Gfycat

Sometimes we get in a rut and lose track of things we love doing. This can often happen when we are either overwhelmed or feeling under the weather but sometimes keeping up or starting a hobby can help. Keep doing things you love just for fun.

Take care of your body.

Giphy

Taking care of your body can also take care of your mind. I know you hear it a lot but it is important to drink a lot of water. Your body is at it's best when it is properly hydrated. It can improve your skin and health. Exercise in whatever way you enjoy. Not everyone needs to go to the gym or hop on a treadmill or lift weights. It can be swimming, walking or riding a bike. Lastly, meditation or just relaxing is healthy as well. Our bodies need that relax time. Meditation is very nice but also taking a relaxing bath or letting yourself sit and watch a movie can be good too.

Don't ever stop learning.

Gfycat

Sometimes, after someone graduates high school or college they feel like they can stop learning. However, it is important to keep your brain turning. Obviously, our brains will be used in whatever job we do but it's important to learn through other things as well. Keep reading books, learn a language or discover more about a history topic you enjoy.

Start saving money and create a good savings.

Giphy

Saving money can be hard with bills pilling up all the time but it is important to set aside even just a little bit of money each paycheck. This will make it so you have a cushion when things get tighter. It also makes a little bit of difference whenever you want to take a vacation or do something nice for yourself on the occasion.

Treat yourself to small things.

Tenor

This may sound odd after I told you to save money but it is okay to still treat yourself occasionally. For example, getting a handcrafted coffee rather than the usual black coffee you have at home. Sometimes, it is good to go shopping occasionally and getting yourself at least one thing.

Everyone is a villain in someone's story.

Flare

This is a popular saying and has been said in multiple different ways. It is important to stay loyal to your morals and remain kind to everyone but there will always be someone who doesn't like you and that's okay. You will always have an enemy and they will have their reasoning but it isn't your problem, it's theirs.

Stop daydreaming about the future.

Tenor

Often-times we will daydream about the amazing future we want or we envy someone else's life and tell ourselves that we want that as our future. This is what puts people in ruts and makes them unhappy because odds are we won't get that exact future. If it is a future that could happen, we might daydream about it too much that we won't work for it. Instead, we just wait for some miracle that will allow us to gain the future we dream of. It is important to live in the present and simply work to live the best life we are given.

Stop dwelling on past mistakes.

Giphy

This is always easier said than done because it's our past and the mistakes we made that haunt us. What doesn't make it any easier is that there is always someone that will remind us of these mistakes too. Bad things that has happened in the past has made us stronger and our mistakes is what makes us better ourselves. That is all we need to take from the past and nothing else. Take the good parts and remember those. Disregard the bad things as simply character building and the chance to say despite all of that... look where I am now.

It is important to keep focusing on yourself and the things that you want. To be caring and kind is always a remarkable thing but it is also important to keep that care towards yourself as well.

Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
