School is hard. With midterms happening and 1000 other commitments life can be pretty stressful at this point. Whether it is your first semester, you are almost done, or you are somewhere in the middle--remember to take some time for yourself. There should be no shame in taking care of yourself. Sometimes you just have to cut off the rest of the world and do something for you. Throughout the semester it is important to practice self-care. It is up to you to figure out what taking care of yourself looks like. A few of my favorites are aromatherapy, yoga, and my cats.
Self-care is different for everyone but a few important practices for everyone is to stay hydrated, healthy eating (or at least a fruit and vegetable a day), getting plenty of sleep, writing daily gratitudes, going outside and getting some sun, and exercising a little (even just walking around). Self-care is anything that help you or according to this website, refuels you. Self-care does not take from you. Self-care is there to help and care for you.
Another important thing to remember is to not take from other people. Yes, you need to refuel yourself but do not do it by taking from other people. Care for yourself in ways that do not hurt other people. Self-care is not gossiping, arguing, or being mean to other people. Self-care helps you and it does not hurt other people.
The point is to not forget about yourself. You have a lot of commitments--we all do. But put yourself first and make time for yourself. You are the most important person in your life. You will have to deal with yourself for your whole life so you might as well make yourself happy.
