Seeking A Godly Woman While In College

God's decision outweighs your heart's desires sometimes.

Man, college is the best and worst four years of your life. Between all those long nights spending time with friends and those all-nighters studying for your tests you can hardly find time for anything else, let alone who God intends for you to spend the rest of your life with.

We all want someone to call our wife, and it seems like everyone seems to find their future wifey at the Greek social your friends dragged you to or that study session you almost skipped. As we all know, whatever God has intended for us will happen. But how can we be proactive in searching for her?

1. Know the traits of a good Godly wife and seek her out

Proverbs 31:10-31 An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands, she plants a vineyard.

She dresses with strength and makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.

She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.”

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

God clearly lays out the characteristics of a godly wife from her strengths to her beauty and all the way down to the children. Take heed, my brothers, for God is giving us a cheat sheet to finding a woman of respect who will help you grow in your relationship with the Man Above.

2. Be patient, and remember not every girl is the one you will spend your life with

Many times, we seem to have found the "right girl" and we think there is no way she can't be "the one". Remember to take every relationship a step at a time and to center every relationship around Christ.

He tells us to go to Him with everything through prayer and supplication. That doesn't mean you pray to God for the right woman and expect her to show up in your life the next time with a ribbon on her head. And do not be discouraged if a relationship does not work out for that just means God did not intend for that woman to be yours.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."
