Seek God, Worry Less

Let's hand the reigns over to God and let the Creator of the universe have His way.

Seek God, Worry Less

My life memoir may as well be titled, "Worrying About My Future On The Daily." Why do we worry about the future when God has our life meticulously crafted? Why worry at all when God knows the number of hair strands on our head?

"So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:31-34.

Worry is such a burden, it depletes us from trusting in God fully. Why do we worry? Why are we anxious? Why do we not take life one day at a time? For the college student worrying over finals, the future, or about life in general- just take a deep breath, and hand the reigns over to the Lord. And remember, "cast all of your anxieties on Him, because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7.

Here's deal, God cares for you and me. He's proven this countless times in Scripture. Our anxieties surely do not go unseen, but we need to cast these worries on the Lord. We all have seasons of worry, but often times we do not realize how much time we waste worrying. This is such valuable time that could be spent in God's word, furthering His kingdom, and maybe not procrastinating homework (maybe that one's just for me).

What would life look life if we spent less time worrying and more time seeking God?

I asked myself this question one night when I became anxious about whether I was pursuing the right major, pouring into the right people, and investing in the right things. All of this hit me like a brick wall. If I've learned one thing from being a worry-wart, it would be that worrying is a vicious, endless, evil cycle. And it's one of the enemy's greatest schemes. The more we worry, the less we seek God and His righteous path for our lives and the less Kingdom-minded we become. Hold on to Proverbs 3:5-6, "trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Spending more time in His Word is the key. Seeking His promises for our lives and simply basking in His presence can set us afire. So let's get out faces in the book (the Bible), let's seek God more and worry less, and take life a day at a time. Let's hand the reigns over to God and let the Creator of the Universe have His way. And rest assured, His way is much better than our tainted, worry-filled view of the future. Let your worries fade in the light of Eternity.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
