We all too often forget what it's like to "see with our hearts," a message I found very applicable to myself from church this weekend.
This is easy to do when life is constantly carrying us away into the abyss of our daily routines. Unfortunately, we end up getting lost in our brain and forget to make use of our hearts along the way.
While it is important to make smart, educated decisions, in my opinion it is even more important to make decisions based on what the heart wants. This is not to say that the two cannot work in tandem, however, the utmost importance is your happiness. By making decisions solely on what our brains are telling us, we cannot ensure that this will lead to happiness. Because of this ambiguity, we should rely equally on our hearts for advice in decision making. When we begin to think in this way, we can make smart decisions based on what we truly want, instead of what our brain is telling us is correct.
Although a decision made based on statistics, or some other quantitative value is educated, and probably a wise choice, a decision made based on the what we truly want is what will help improve quality of life at the end of the day. If we can manage to get out of the vicious cycle of the 9-5 brain activity, and start doing things that we actually want to do, quality of life is almost 100% guaranteed to improve. However, if we do not break out of this mode of thinking, we are almost sure to get stuck in a funk that will eventually be hard to get out of.
One easy way to think about this is not at all. Start giving your brain a break, and "see with your heart."
