See You Later

"From the day that I met you I knew that I would love you till the day I die. And I will never want much more. And in my heart I will always be sure. I will never forget you. And you’ll always be by my side till the day I die." -- Zara Larrson

Peter Pan once said, "Never say good-bye because saying good-bye means going away and going away means forgetting." Although all see-you-laters in life included going away, my see-you-laters have never included goodbye or forgetting. This see-you-later is no different. I'm writing this because I have to say see you later to one of my best friends for a while and I want her to understand what exactly that means.

1. I'm devastated and I know you are too, but time heals all

2. You're simply going away for a period of time

You will be back and the three musketeers will be reunited as if you weren't even gone. A semester will fly by and you'll be back stronger than ever. And richer, too, which means milkshakes on you, right? Kidding, but not really.

3. I will miss you more than I can ever express to you

I promise to not beg you to stay, because I know this is what's best for you, and I support you 100 percent although I wish you didn't have to go. I also know you will visit, which makes you leaving a little bit easier.

4. You will not be forgotten

I couldn't forget you even if I tried. You and I shaved our heads together, bald b!t@h*s forever and always we'll be.

5. You will not be replaced

Again, I couldn't replace you even if I tried. No one knows how to fix my nap hair like you do or give me wings so on "fleek" I can fly away from all of my problems.

6. You're expected to stay in touch

OK, Becca Ann? Since you can't go to the caf and eat at date tables with me until you return, I may or may not have to bring you to the caf via FaceTime to share some sweet potato fries.

7. Please don't be upset

I know this is hard to request from me to you, but I want nothing but happiness for you. So cry a little, eat a little, drink a little, but then put on your lipstick and a big smile, and show the world how fierce you are, best friend.

8. I love you

In case you didn't know, I love you and a see-you-later cannot and will not change that. I love everything about you: the good, the bad and the ugly.

9. See you later

By the time this is published, our see-you-later will have already came and gone, so as you're reading this remember it wasn't a goodbye, which I'm terrible at -- it was a see you later. See you later, next semester, and the semester after that. I'll be seeing you later for years to come. You're my bestie for the restie. There is no escaping that. So I'll see you later!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
