Just in time to beat the heat, I'm back with a list of films that you might want to see this summer... and some that you probably don't. Sure maybe some of these haven't come out, but as a film major--I have my ways of finding out information. Of course, these are simply my own thoughts and opinions, so if you don't care for them, then so be it.
1. See: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
This may seem silly, but in all honesty, this film was very entertaining. Not quite as action-packed as the first one and a little more humorous, this film was definitely worth watching. The sequel to the first film of the same name provides more insight into the life of Star Lord himself and proves to be a fun and fast-paced film!
2. Skip: 7 Witches
People rent an island for their wedding, but witches rise up as an old curse comes into play--YAWN. Not really anything remarkable, and not really anything worth watching. Also, who rents a creepy-looking island to get married?
3. See: Alien: Covenant
The film comes as the sequel to Prometheus in the prequel trilogy of Ridley Scott's Alien series. The film has a projected budget of about $150 million, so you know it's going to look pretty epic. The Alien series has a lot of fans, and I like to think that the film will continue to live up to expectations.
4. Skip: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul
I will admit, I read these books when I was in middle school, but the film versions were rather disappointing. Unless you happen to be an ultimate super-fan of the books, I would skip out on the Wimpy Kid movie.
5. See: I, Daniel Blake
This one may be a little more out there, but it won the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival (for those that don't know, it's a really, really, really important award). It follows the story of a man who, after suffering a major heart attack, finds himself down on his luck. He meets a single mom of two young children, and they learn to navigate the ups and downs of life together in their new friendship. The film is a moving experience and deserves attention, so challenge yourself with this one--you will not be disappointed!
6. Skip: Amityville: The Awakening
I can already guarantee that this is not going to be anything remarkable (also, since when did Bella Thorne break into horror film acting? But I digress). I don't have a lot of faith in horror movies in the first place, but considering there are already 14 other Amityville movies, I'm not sure we need another one.
7. See: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
This franchise has also been going on for awhile--14 years in the making! The fifth installment of the pirates adventure introduces Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar, the leader of a band of ghost pirates, and he is out to end Jack Sparrow. The last four films have done rather well, and this one is sure to be no different!
