When in the city you are surround by man made buildings. The tallest thing around is usually a successful business, apartment complex, hospital, etc. When in the city everything is known: it was planned, it was built, it is under control.
This past Summer I went to Alaska, seeing mountains for the first time. To see something so big that was natural put a sense of fear in me. It was not a bad fear, more like a realization of how much bigger the world was than I thought up to that point. Man did not make the mountains, therefore man does not have control over them either. They were huge. They were beautiful. Walking in Anchorage, everywhere I turned there were mountains in the distance, we were surrounded. Looking up I realizing how small I was and how big the world can be.
I had the chance to fly in a bush plane, which allowed us to fly over and through the mountain passes. Having an arial view of the mountain tops was a check off the bucket list. I found that I loved to be in the clouds, where ices crystals formed on the windows. I could see the glacier melt running down the side of the mountain into the lake leading to the ocean. I could see wildlife on and at the base of mountains, a site that I never would have seen had I not been flying.
The mountains made me want to explore. To see what was at the top, what was behind them, what they were hiding. In my cycle of everyday life I have put God in a box, thinking I knew all that He could do. Seeing the mountains destroyed that box. The God that made those majestic mountains made me, chose me. There is so much peace in that realization. So much beauty. They were an extraordinary reminder at the beauty in creation. Through it I felt a sense of how big God is.
So here is my recommendation to you, plan an adventure. See what the world has to offer. Go explore the mountains in nature's playground.
