Oh college you come with many advantages, but boy do you do a girl wrong when it comes to food. Aside from the binge-eating while binge-watching Netflix; you have the tailgates, the order-in Chinese nights, the Chipotle right next to campus, and the never ending ramen noodles which everyone knows is absolutely horrible for you, but it's all you have left in the bin under your bed so why not? You know, the usual. Which leads to gains and not the good kind I mind you, but the kind where your jeans are not quite sliding on as easily as you think they should.
When it comes to watching what you eat in college, there are definitely some obstacles to overcome, the few listed above being some of them. When you are being lazy and can't figure out what to make for breakfast: Chipotle; lunch: Chipotle; dinner: Chipotle, or any other restaurant closest you. It is just the simple laziness that you obtain when getting done with a long day of being a full-time college student. No shame in that, unless you do not want to live up to the expectations of the famous Freshman 15.
So, some ways to avoid this phenomenon:
1. Go To The Gym
Even if you go to the gym for thirty minutes, that is thirty minutes of activity that you can say that you did. Make your own workout plan and stick with it. In between binge-watching Netflix all day, I am sure you can find a small portion of time out of your day to hit the gym and get even a small workout in.
2. Count Your Calories
I can not express enough how much this works. For those of you who are anti-gym or just do not have the time to go, this is for you. This is a simple and effective way to cut the weight, just download an app right to your phone (recommended: MyFitnessPal) and start losing.
3. Make Homemade Meals and Use Healthy Ingredients
I am sure you all have seen those Facebook videos made by Get In My Belly and Delish showing you the simplest ways to make a quick and (most of the times) healthy meal and that is exactly what they are, simple and healthy. Use fresh ingredients from the super market or the campus's pick through garden and make yourself a meal that is better for you than your original Chipotle everyday lifestyle. I know it is hard, but trust me there are healthier options out there. Eat good without gaining the weight.
4. Try Not To Stress
Believe it or not, stress can cause weight gain. In fact, if you are constantly stressing over something whether it be school, work, or even a change of environment, weight could build up significantly on your end. Remember to take a breather, drink lots of water, and stay stress-free.
