Every year, we make this promise to ourselves. This idea that we need to do something that we wish we had the previous year. That if we do this one thing it'll account for everything else we have done in the previous year and make it all worthwhile. As a society, we then wonder why we still feel unhappy and aren't completely joyous when we accomplish what we said we would. We sit and ponder what we could possibly be missing.
So you're probably wondering what this big secret I'm hiding is, what I could possibly be hiding behind the text of this article. That or, you're fed up with what I have to say and already disagree with me. Either of which is fine, by no means is my answer the only answer as to how you can live your life.
Just get to the point already!!
As a society we weigh all of these things on a hierarchy: socializing, education, working. We sit and live our lives by little notes scribbled in ballpoint ink on our planners. We fail to remember that we need to make time for...
Ourselves.
Within our daily lives we rarely value ourselves, we rarely give ourselves time. We have to schedule these spa days and watch television while falling asleep at 11pm and waking up at 6am to repeat the process.
We have to find time and money to pamper ourselves. In reality, there aren't enough hours in a day. But you only have 24, so why can't everyone spare one for their own enjoyment? The truth is we are overloaded in our day to day lives.
Myth: I don't have time.
Fact: You always always have time for yourself, you just have to find the time to make it.
Whether it's a nap on the couch for 30 minutes, or an hour walk in the woods. Maybe it's cooking while singing your heart out as your day is coming to a close. At the end of the day all of your stresses are temporary and you need to take care of you.
Don't ever value yourself differently, you have earned every break, every reward and every sense of calm you can get for simply being you.
