So, senior year is winding down. The work load gets lighter and lighter and there is so much anticipation to move away and begin the college experience. You begin to tune out, focus on your future and try to spend as much time with your friends while you can. However, you are now in the home stretch. There is so much pressure to turn in all of your work, pass your final exams and overall, solidify your grades. As a second semester senior, I completely understand the pain and so does Michael Scott.
1. You will look for any distraction to pass time during class.
We've all been there. When the kid sitting next to you, linking paperclips together, is more entertaining than learning supply and demand of economics. So you join in. And before you know it, you've linked an entire box of paperclips together and suddenly class is almost over. Success.
2. Having an 18 year old waiver is the best thing to ever happen to you.
Yes, getting to vote is a plus as well. But the true joy in becoming a legal adult is getting to excuse yourself from school without consent. When all you're doing in class is watching a movie, this slip of paper will be your best friend and your ticket to freedom.
3. Homework assignments are a last minute thing.
As they have always been. But especially now. During the assignment instruction, you're tuned out and tell yourself to rely on your peers for instruction later. Only to find out they have no idea what is happening either.
4. You go out on school nights.
Since homework is light and there's no zero period, you're free! Weekend plans aren't as much of a luxury now because you can still have a night out with your friends during the week.
5. Spending time with your family and friends is the most important thing to you.
Suddenly, a single night spent alone seems like a waste. When you know you're going to be in a different place with different people in a matter of months, all you want to do is make lasting memories.
6. Hearing other people's future plans sends you into a panic.
So, you're still figuring out your life. You're not entirely sure about your major. And even if you are, you still have to worry about finances, skill, and happiness. So when Mr. Successful tells you his foolproof plan to become a billionaire, suddenly you begin to question any decision you've ever made, ever.
7. Prom is the most stressful thing in the world.
From finding the perfect dress or tux to finding the perfect date, prom is stressful. With only so much time left, it's easy to assume you're inevitably going to be date-less. Which you're repeatedly reminding yourself is not at all the worst thing in the world. However, that special person could be right around the corner.
8. You spend so much money.
Everyday. There's something to do, food to eat, things to want. You'll start off the week with a full wallet, and end the week owing money to 7 friends, your parents, and the bank.
9. You're so tired of hearing about the end.
Everyone is telling you how sad it'll be when you're away and how to make the best of your time left. However, you've known this for the past four years. You know that no college transition is easy, but the idea of staying in the same community is rather painful. So, you get caught up in this exhausting state of appreciating the present so much that you don't appreciate it anymore.
10. You're secretly hoping for a miracle.
Whether it's your grades increasing over that borderline, your college sending you a scholarship, or even a moment with your dream crush since freshman year, we're all hoping for something.
And on that note, I wish you the least awkward college transition, all of your prom fantasies to be fulfilled, and the least amount of debt possible.
