You wake up on a Saturday and realize it's the best day of the year. Game Day. If you have never experienced a college football game in the south, then I am sorry to tell you... you're missing out. In the South, college football isn't just a sport or something you watch on television, it's a religion.
We 'Southerners,' if you will, take our college football seriously. Compared to all the sports fans in the nation, I would say that we are considered the craziest and most loyal fans you will ever meet. We wake up at the crack of dawn on Saturdays to cheer on a bunch of guys who run up and down the field in a uniform. Why?
The Traditions
Fans of the SEC are always loyal. We make sure to wake up at least 12 hours before game time to cheer on our boys and wear our gameday attire. It doesn't matter how little sleep you got the night before, you are ready for game day. The student section in the south is always so hype and energetic you can't help but feel all connected under an amazing bond. It's the best feeling walking into a random place outside of campus and hearing someone call 'War Eagle!' or 'Go Dawgs!'
The Rivalries
The Hospitality
The stereotype of people in the South having great hospitality is no lie. Everyone is so generous and kind and always wants to make sure that you have a full stomach. I'm not kidding. So when it comes to football, yes we get competitive and talk trash like any other fan would, but at the end of the day, we treat everyone like a lifelong friend. Yes, even an Alabama and Auburn fan can get along with each other. That's the beauty of living in the South.
It's the Freakin' SEC
What exactly do I mean by this? The SEC is not just about Football and Tailgating. It's about finding your permanent second home. I remember touring Auburn and falling in love with the atmosphere and the people right when I walked on campus. There is so much school spirit and it automatically feels like home and you were meant to be there. When I walk on campus, I still can't get over the feeling of being apart of such an amazing school and community. But... we also do have amazing football.
SEC! SEC! SEC!
